I have an Icom IC-9100 that is in excess to my needs. I purchased it new in 2011. It has 2m, 70cm, HF, and has the 1.2 gig module,the DSTAR module, and narrow filter installed. It also has the Pat V 9100 multi-tap board installed. This 4 tap KD2C option board will allow, with an SDR1 or similar, a panadapter display on all bands . Also, unlike the 9700 which is 1200 baud TX packet only this IC-9100 transceiver is capable of transmitting 9600 baud packet data. AMSAT Italia has the pleasure to announce the agreement with the italian National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) <https://www-ingv-it.translate.goog/it/?_x_tr_sl=it&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=it&…>, respectively represented by our president Emanuele D’Andria I0ELE and the president of the institute Prof. Carlo Doglioni. Many common interests have been discussed since the first meetings, either in the earth observation from space, space weather monitoring activities but also in the educational activities to stimulate young generations in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). And it is in this interest that we are planning the first collaborations with dissemination interventions in the frame of the activities of next ARISS School Contacts. Mentors and coordinators have been invited to exploit the opportunity by including the INGV in the educational activities. Further common activities have been already envisaged like space weather monitoring. Texas Panhandle rove April 9-10

My XYL will be tied up with an on-line Yoga training the weekend of April 9-10, so I figured this would be a good excuse for a rove to the DM8x and DM9x grids! I am planning to stay overnight near Lubbock (DM93) so can do a few late night passes from that grid Friday, April 8, probably around 0400Z to 0500Z (4/9 UTC) or so. Saturday morning will be some passes from DM93 and DM92 with the plan to be in DM82 around 1700Z to give AA4QE #488 from there. After a few DM82 passes I will start heading north around 1900Z to DM83, do a few passes around 2000 to 2100Z from there, with the plan to be in DM84 around 2300Z to give VE7CEW #488 from there. Will probably spend a couple of hours in DM84 before heading to DM85, and will probably finish the day there, most likely overnighting in DM95 around Amarillo, so some possible later night passes from that grid. Sunday will hopefully be DM86 for a few passes, then DM96 before starting the trip home. I should be able to do a few passes from DM95 and DM94 on the way home as well. Looking forward to working everyone who needs those grids. If you need one of those grids for your last 5 towards the Gridmaster, let me know and I will see what we can work out. 73 John AF5CC

ARISS News Release No.22-15 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISSContact is Scheduled with Students at Toyonaka High School, Toyonaka, Japan March18, 2022—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between astronauts on-boardthe International Space Station (ISS) and Japanese students at the ToyonakaHigh School in Toyonaka, Japan. ARISSconducts 60-80 of these special amateur radio contacts each year betweenstudents around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses on-board theISS. Toyonaka High School, founded in 1921, is one of Osaka’sprefectural high schools, located in Toyonaka, Osaka. The school is designated as one of the GlobalLeader’s High Schools, and also designated as one of the Super Science HighSchools. Members (about 30 students) of the Toyonaka High School Science Club, aspart of their science activities, hold scientific labs for elementary schoolchildren a few times a year. This year’sscience club activity involves 20 elementary school children that are participatingin this ARISS contact. Science clubmembers helped the children think about questions to ask astronauts on boardthe ISS and translate the questions into English. After the contact, Toyonaka High Schoolstudents will also participate in space science activities with the elementaryschool students. The Kansai ARISS project team is assisting the school withthis contact. This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio and students will take turns asking their questionsof Astronaut Kayla Barron, amateur radio call sign KI5LAL. Local Covid-19protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. The downlinkfrequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard by listeners thatare within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the ground station. Amateur radio operators in Toyonaka, Japan willuse call sign 8J3THS to serve as the amateur radio ground station. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31, 2022. The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. Because of the nature of human spaceflight and the complexity of scheduling activities aboard the ISS, organizations must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changes in dates and times of the radio contact. Amateur Radio organizations around the world with the support of NASA and space agencies in Russia, Canada, Japan, and Europe present educational organizations with this opportunity. The ham radio organizations’ volunteer efforts provide the equipment and operational support to enable communication between crew on the ISS and students around the world using Amateur Radio.
