Yes, it is easy to maintain multiple profiles in the D710. One for Falconsat and one for ISS/NO84, etc Just program one PM memory for normal operation Then one for Falconsat at 9600 using the path of PFS3-1, and then another one for ISS/APRS/NO84 using the path VIA ARISS Then operations of any are only one PM push button away. But you must change the menu item AUTO-PM-STORE to OFF, or otherwise the PM will NOT remember the basic settings but will auto-save-anything you do and so you never know for sure what is in there. I always thoguth it strange that the default for AUTO-PM-SAVE defaults to ON which defeats the whole purpose (in my opinion) of having PM memories in the first plave. The ISS digipeater has been unreliable in the last couple of years. Firstly, it is turned off whenever there is a special event happening on the space station (space walks, re-supplies, etc). Secondly, the packet module and radio are really old, and we've been seeing erratic behavior from the pair (sometimes it's not on at all, sometimes it's on but weak, sometimes it's deaf, etc.). There is a fancy new ARISS transceiver slated to go up to the station soon, and we all hope that will remedy the situation. Of course, sending a few bucks to ARISS can't hurt that timeline. :) Regarding the switch between the 1200 and 9600 packet sats - there is no easy way. I also use a D710 and it would be nice if you could select a "profile" to swap in all of the path, modem speed, and duplex options - but to my knowledge this is not possible. If you are connected via KISS serial connection, you could automate this - but I'm not sure if there are any software packages out there that would do that - at least without having to manually change all the values via individual KISS commands (which doesn't seem to be any better than using the built-in D710 UI). --Roy K3RLD > Trying to become active on APRS/packet on the satellites using my Kenwood > TM-D710. Trying to become active on APRS/packet on the satellites using my Kenwood TM-D710. A couple of questions: 1.) Anyone know why the ISS digipeater hasn’t been active for the past several days? 2.) Is there any easy way to switch the path and other settings between FalconSat3 and ISS/NO-84? I’d love to work both, but don’t do a lot of APRS operating so switching between them isn’t easy for me. WX sat software

I got this email from a guy I met at the Charlotte Hamfest. I know extremely little about receiving WX sats, so I told him I'd pass it on the AMSAT BB. Email him directly if you like.... avampato(a)comporium.net There is one correction to the email below. He actually meant NOAA 19, not 21. *Philip,* *Remember we met at the Charlotte Ham fest. What I wanted to know is what software is used to demodulate and display NOAA 21 Sat images. I receive a strong signal when the sat is overhead. Tuning above 435.360 MHz when working AO-92 U/V??

Hi! A couple of weeks ago, when I started using my old Icom IC-W32A on the FM satellites again, I saw that I was having to tune up to 435.365 MHz on the AO-92 U/V uplink to get through near my LOS. I didn't think much about it then, since the radio is at least 15 years old. It worked, even with the additional tuning step, and did a decent job on AO-91 and AO-92 (U/V). It's one of the later W32A models, with a 7-digit serial number that doesn't include any capabilities to receive at 800 MHz, and doesn't work SO-50 full-duplex. I was on AO-92 U/V earlier this week using my TH-D72 HT. On one pass Monday morning, I found that I had to tune up to 435.365 MHz near the end of a pass to get through the satellite. This was the first time I could recall having to do this with my TH-D72. I asked about this on Twitter and the QRZ satellite forum; a few others have noticed the same thing. I am now finding that when I work AO-92 U/V, I don't stay on 435.340 MHz very long. Maybe a minute or so, about the same amount of time I have been on 435.365 MHz before LOS. I spend a similar amount of time on the other 4 tuning steps for AO-92 U/V (435.345 through 435.360 MHz). Once I saw this, it is not a big deal to be prepared to use a 6th tuning step on my radios. This is a relatively new thing, as I wasn't having to tune above 435.360 MHz a year ago - or even 3-4 months ago - when working AO-92 U/V. For those using HTs or FM mobile radios to work AO-92 U/V, does anyone else find they are having to transmit above 435.360 MHz late in those passes to get through? If you're using something like an IC-910 or IC-9100, where are your radios ending up when working AO-92 U/V? Or an alternative question... what are you using as the nominal uplink frequency for AO-92 U/V? Thanks, and 73! Hans, I was going to recommend the same RTL-SDR.com filters, with the caveat that you cannot transmit through them. This shouldn't be a problem if you are using an arrow (just be sure to not TX on the antenna it's connected to), though? (somebody can correct me if I am wrong). I will say that I researched band reject filters a while ago that can take significant power, and they are REALLY expensive (like $100 and up). I own one of these cheap RTL-SDR.com FM filters and it does work (although I've never used it for sat ops). --Roy K3RLD > I doubt these can take more than a few Watts.
