AFDB - Don't Be Caught Without One..

I offer the following in the interest of safety of all AMSAT-Florida List members. Not only does the AFDB offer protection against most electromagnetic psychotronic mind control carriers, but can shield one from the higher frequencies that AMSAT satellite builders seems to be moving towards. If your contemplating getting on the future P3E and Eagle satellites and looking to be active on S-Band and higher frequencies, I can't stress how important this could be. It just might save your life. Or at the very least, keep you from frying your brain. And who wants to talk with a fellow Ham Radio Satellite Operator sporting a half cooked brain. Most Recent News 4/17 5:30 AM PDT: We have received confirmed orbital parameters from Kosmotras, and they are posted on the Dnepr 2 mission page.? CP4 has also been heard from over Denmark, so all beaconing CubeSats have been contacted! 4/17 3:30 AM PDT: CAPE1 has been heard by multiple amateur radio operators in Europe, and it is officially functional as well. 4/17 2:20 AM PDT: An audio file of Libertad1 recorded at Cal Poly's earth station can be heard here. 4/17 1:55 AM PDT: The operators of Libertad1 are declaring their satellite as officially functional! 4/17 1:30 AM PDT: Cal Poly tracked a very low western pass and was able to hear both CAPE1 and Libertad1! Denmark was also able to hear both satellites as the passed overhead. CP4 will turn on and begin to beacon at 4:32 AM PDT. 4/17 1:20 AM PDT: The confirmed deployment times are approximately 10 seconds earlier than anticipated. The TLEs will be updated on the Dnepr Launch 2 page when the rest of the orbital parameters are received. Seven CubeSats were aboard this launch, six 1-U CubeSats along with a single 3-U CubeSat. Message: 1 Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2007 21:45:01 -0700 From: CubeSat <cubesat(a)gmail.com> Subject: [CubeSat] Dnepr Launch Information CubeSat developers, This email is confirming that the Dnepr launch is still set for April 17, 2007 at 0646:35 UTC. The TLEs have been updated on our website, and we plan on using the discussion board at http://polysat.calpoly.edu/irc/ to allow satellite trackers to discuss what's been found. We will also be posting updates from Kosmotras regarding the status of the launch as soon as we hear it on the website and the discussion boards. We are encouraging all participants with a groundstation to help track CP4. CP4 will autonomously transmit a sensor snapshot once every two minutes while in orbit. This transmission will be on 437.325 MHz, at 1200bps FSK, using AX.25 packetized digital data. Please note that it is FSK, not AFSK, which will require you to set your radios to "single side band" (SSB) instead of "FM mode". This sensor snapshot is preceded by a six second CW preamble that can be decoded as the satellite's call sign. CP4's autonomous beacon contains sensor data that can be used to determine satellite's health status. A program that can make sense of the binary data encoded in the AX.25 packets will be made available to community soon (probably through the PolySat website). The information in this beacon would be useful to us, along with the recorded receive signal strength, should any anomalies occur early in our mission. We would like to encourage station operators to try to capture CP4's downlink and submit files to: polysat(a)gmail.com [or polysat(a)atl.calpoly.edu]. Boy scout Camporee

Tomorrow, Saturday March 17th, is the date of the Manatee Co. FL Boy Scout Camporee. This year's campout is centered around experiencing amateur radio. There will be several stations setup covering several bands. AMSAT will also have a station operating as many satellites and passes as possible on Saturday. The calls being used will be KU4OS and AA4KN. We would appreciate contacts with as many stations as possible. We invited you to listen out for us and be a part of this event. Dave, AA4KN

Interesting Trivia

Would AMSAT Ever Existed..If this had not occurred.... Friday March 16 On this day in 1926, Robert Goddard launched the first liquid-fuel rocket. But he was first noticed in 1907 when a cloud of smoke issued from a powder rocket fired in the basement of the physics building in Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Needless to say, the school took an interest in the work of this shy student. Thankfully they did not expel him, and thus began his lifetime of work in rocket science. Goddard was also the first to realize the full implications of rocketry for missiles and space flight, and his lifetime of work was dedicated to bringing this vision to realization. While most of what he did went unrecognized for many years, today we celebrate the name of Robert H. Goddard. This first flight may have gone only 12 meters, but forty years later on the date of his birth, Gemini 8 was launched, carrying Neil Armstrong and David Scott into orbit!

Jumping The Gun ?

It appears that Space-Track jumped the gun in naming FalconSat-3 Object Number 30776 in their Kep listing earlier in the week. This mornings their keps for that launch have reverted back to Object Letters, A to G. So your guess is as good as any as to who's who up there. But some of the object orbits are pretty far out as to be any of the payloads. Maybe rocket stages? My limited monitoring of the FalconSat 435.100 down link frequency, when it's in mutual view of Colorado and Florida, has not produced any results. Might just have to wait till it gets finished with it primary science mission and becomes a ham radio satellite before you will hear it.
