Apathy in the US

Stefan, in the United States, we are lucky to get 20 per cent to vote in many local, statewide, and national elections. It is embarrassing. It is irresponsible. But it is how lackadaisical this country has become when it comes to important matters. Personally, I do not see why fellow AMSAT members should only have this 20 per cent figure voting. Keep sending in your dues, non-voters. Keep AMSAT-NA in your wills. But don't you non-voters moan and complain when matters arise that you disagree with. You couldn't make the effort to affix a stamp and lick an envelope when the future of AMSAT-NA mattered. Don't show your face here and complain about a single thing AMSAT-NA is doing. 2013 AMSAT Board of Directors Election Results Announced

As a result of the 2013 Board of Directors Election, Barry Baines, WD4ASW; Tony Monteiro, AA2TX, Alan Biddle, WA4SCA, and Mark Hammond, N8MH, will serve on the board for two years. The first alternate is JoAnne Maenpaa, K9JKM, and the second alternate is Steve Coy, K8UD. Domenico, I'm pretty sure members have been assigned numbers sequentially since the early days. The membership number is can be thought of more as a seniority number, the lower the number, the longer you've been a member. So the highest number is the number of people who have at sometime held a membership. The actual number is diluted by SK's and folks who for whatever reason, let their membership lapse. BoD Election & AMSAT Membership

Domenico, Wish I could provide a more detailed answer, but the reason why I claim AMSAT #38965 is because it was hand-written on the membership card that I got when I joined earlier this year. :-) Perhaps I should apply for Life Membership so that I could get a lower and easier to remember number. 688 members voting out of approximately 3,000 isn't terrible. Wish that many people (percentage wise) cared as much about our democracy in this country--especially in local elections. Congratulations to the winners, and kudos to all who ran. Remember that just by volunteering to run these members have shown their willingness to serve the rest of us. Anyone who volunteers for any role in AMSAT is worthy of appreciation. All of you have mine. Transmits every 15 seconds with a 5-second gap between transmissions. Last heard over Northeast Atlanta. Possibly heading to the Southeast of Altanta but could also be heading out to SC. Bike Frame Polar Tracker

I saw this on the instructables site. http://www.instructables.com/id/Bicycle-Frame-Polar-Tracker/ Thought it was an interesting idea for maybe tracking the sun. But maybe the more mechanically inclined might be able to build on the idea and modify it a bit more for hamsat use. I have seen a lot of scrap bikes these days that look like they might yield a wealth of cheap bearings, AZ-EL mount, Chains, sprockets, ect. Mike N6IMF
