SO-50 from the car

I tried an experiment today on the 1630Z pass . My normal operating on SO-50 is a FT-530 (5W) to a standard Arrow... that’s about 15W ERP, correct? Today I tried a smaller, CJU antenna on RX (on the FT530), and my 45W mobile on my stock 1/2 wave mobile antenna (looking for a quick and dirty set-up... standing next to the car, mic through the window). It was a 55 degree west pass for me. I confirmed I had the correct tone set and was on simplex and high power, and I could not hear my myself. Not even near AOS and LOS (low on the horizon). Was I subject to the null off the top of the mobile TX antenna? for those of you who operate from your cars, what do you use for a TX antenna? Power? (btw, the CJU was a bit of a disappointment.... usable, but not great) Bill W1PA (also btw, that was NOT me calling "CQ CQ 1 2 3" with no ID on that pass -- if it was _you_ reading this email, please go back and read one of the FM satellite primers)

I have experienced a similar problem in satpc32, although the error message is not exactly the same. I see this only on a Win 8.1 PC. One thing I have done with some success is to IMMEDIATELY update Keps as soon as satpc32 finishes booting. I am also interested in a permanent fix for this. Red, KC4LE

LituanicaSAT-1 FM Transponder Report 04-Jun-2014 UTC

Good evening, I was on two passes of LituanicaSAT-1 over North America this evening. Signals sounded good, though I noted that the uplink sensitivity makes it difficult to work with just five watts of power output to a handheld antenna, except at higher elevations. My signal was in and out except at the middle of both passes. I neglected to make fine tuning adjustments on the uplink for Doppler as I had on previous passes. That might have made a difference had I done that. On the first pass, around 0031 UTC, KC9ELU in Indiana was the only station heard and worked. On the second pass, around 0207 UTC, KC9ELU was worked again as was KB1PVH in Massachusetts. Also heard were W0DHB in Colorado and KK4VAU in Tennessee. 73, Paul Stoetzer, N8HM Washington, DC (FM18lv)

satpc32 E/A-Fehler 105. error

I can not get it to run (satpc-32). Someone said it is because of a inactive satellite in the list. Which one?? It will just keep happening. Also I am looking for a backup sat program as satpc32 is unreliable. Recommendations?? 73 Bob W7LRD

October Symposium Travel

Greetings All! This message is for those of you who plan to fly into (and out of) the Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport for the upcoming AMSAT Symposium and Annual Meeting on October 10-12, 2014. I've just learned that Southwest Airlines is now having a 72 hour "seat sale" (good until this Thursday) from selected airports in the USA into and out of BWI. That airport is very close to the October Symposium venue. The "must fly by" travel period goes through February, 2015 and some of the seats are going for as little as $49 one way. Our Symposium host, Frank Bauer KA3HDO, also indicates that tentative plans are now "in the works" for "some kind of a tour" on the Monday following the Symposium.
