Hi all, I've been trying to work stations on ARISS as it goes over the USA, and don't seem to be getting anywhere. I hear the ARISS exactly when my tracking software says I should. I switch to converse mode and send a "Hi". I see a number of stations sending packets, I attempt to contact them without results. I used K9JKM's PDF to help set things up (very helpful). My unproto is CQ VIA ARISS. I looked at the bottom of www.ariss.net to see if the ARISS was hearing me, I didn't see my call, nor did I see the other calls I heard. Perhaps it takes a while to appear. Is there another way to see if things are setup okay on my end? I'm using Winpack on Windows 7 to a MFJ-1278T to a IC-706MKIIG connected to a vertical antenna mounted at 50' (working on a better antenna, hope to have it up soon). -- Kelley - WØRK

Landwehr preamps

Thanks to all for the info on fixing these. I do have both operating again like new. It was a matter of cycling the power a few times to get the relays working again, and of course hooking the service monitor up the right way through them. The 1990 KLM Yagi's are also working as well as ever. We have made a handful of contacts through FO-29 and can hear the transponder noise as it pops over the horizion as well as we ever could. I measured just under 2dB of sun noise on UHF. Again as good as when new. Are there any 9600 bps FM/GMSK downlinks working I can use to test the full digital receive chain? I'm not finding any on the various status pages. Jim

FYI, I will try to be on the transponder during this evening's 2314z pass. It's an 80 degree pass here in NJ. I'll be handheld using my VX-5R and homebrew dual yagi and homebrew diplexer. I hope some others (beside Paul! ;-) ) will join me. 73, Chris KQ2RP

I was just on the 22:53Z pass of LituanicaSAT 1. Only person there. Called a few people to drum up a contact. The audio was excellent and very strong on a 22 degree elevation pass using an Arrow II antenna. Was everyone watching for a triple crown winner? Rick -- Sent from Rick's gmail account

I'd really like to work a contact or two through the new bird while it's still up. Can someone walk me through how to add this to SATPC32 and/or Nova for Windows? I've downloaded the latest KEPS, but have no idea which one might be LituanicaSAT-1. Frankly, the naming conventions are confusing, especially for newcomers. What, exactly was wrong with OSCAR-1, OSCAR-2, etc? SO-50 Frequency Drift

Just was on the last pass of SO-50. I was not hearing the satellite at first even as it rose above the trees. At the middle of the pass, I was expecting to find it at around 436.795 MHz, but I found it around 436.786 MHz. Has anybody else noticed this? 73, Paul, N8HM

The ERP Blues by W5PFG They tell me I'm runnin' too much power By golly why did AO-7 switch on me this hour? If I turn the rig's power dial down real low I reckon the signal still has a place to go. Between feedline attenuation and antenna gain My ERP still gives enough cause for people to complain. I've got the E--R--P blues FM'n the linear birds all day and night 'till I blow a fuse.

All stations, please QRP!!!! From everything I've read about the behavior and history of the satellite and heard from other operators monitoring these passes, stations running excessive uplink power are responsible for the recent mode jumping. There are AMSAT demonstrations scheduled this weekend that are relying, in part, on AO-7 being in Mode B. Please keep your uplink power to no more than 100W ERP. If you wish to calculate your ERP, please consult this page: http://www.csgnetwork.com/antennaecalc.html If you cannot hear your own signals with 100W ERP, please QRT and make improvements to your receive setup.
