ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between July 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is November 1, 2016. I am running another Radio Merit Badge workshop for the National Scouting Museum in Irving, TX, EM12, this Saturday, September 17 and activating K2BSA/5. Weather permitting, this will be my first attempt to do a linear transponder satellite pass contact during one of these badge workshops so I am praying that the rain and radio cooperate. Look for us near the center of the FO-29 passband on the 1801Z pass and take a minute to say hello to my assembled Scouts and be patient as they say hello back. 73 and see you on the bird. AMSAT Broadband Preamp

I started working some of the LEO SSB satellites again recently and came across a broadband preamp that is sold by AMSAT. Here is the link: http://store.amsat.org/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=118 Has anyone here used this before? Perhaps this would help me 'hear' a little better with my Arrow antenna, and I could use it for V/U and U/V modes. For those of you that operate with an Arrow, do you use this preamp or some other preamp? It appears there are other preamps out there that are more expensive, but require one per band (V or U). This one will cover both - seems like a good option, just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks! Dave N2TEB

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at C.E.PR. Almadén, Jaén, Spain on 15 Sept. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:14 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and EA7URJ. The contact should be audible over Spain and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Primary Education State School. This school year (2013/2014) there are 420 students from 6 to 12 years old. C.E.PR. Almadén is a Multilingual School with Français as L2 and English as L3. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. When you were child, have you ever dreamt to be an Astronaut? 2. What do I have to study to be an Astronaut? 3. What do you feel when you see so far the Earth from the space? 4. How is the outer space? Is it nice? 5. What kind of work do you do in the ISS, and what is the purpose? 6. What was the most dangerous mission that you have confronted? 7. What is the ISS speed? 8. How many times does the ISS spend to turn around the Earth? 9. How is a common day in the Station? 10. Have you ever seen an UFO, or any strange object? 11. How do you get water and oxygen on ISS? 12. Are there meteorites dangerous for you? 13. What is the most beautiful experience have you ever had at Space? 14. What happen if the Space suit breaks during EVA? 15. How is the Earth seen from the ISS during the night? 16. How are your meals and foods in the Space? 17. What difficulties do you have for your personal hygiene? 18. Is it possible to see the ISS from the Earth? 19. [Video] Wright Brothers National Memorial NM29 NPOTA Sat Activation and update on SS04 NPOTA activation

This is my National Parks on The Air (NPOTA) SO-50 satellite activation from August 29th 2016 at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The NPS unit is NM29 and the grid square is FM26. I use it for portable operations with my Arrow antenna. For my home setup I use an ARR rf-switched preamp on the 70 cm antenna. Heed Jerry N0JY's warnings about never transmitting through the amsat one. You will burn it out every time! 73 Rolf.
