There should be no “rules” promoting roving over any others' attempts to work the satellites. Hi Matthias, This is not AmicalSat, when did you recorded it ? There is two possibilities of failures. The first is bad attitude of the satellite when transmitting (not nadir, remember that the ADCS is not working, unfortunately), the second is a problem in the planed task (this is the first time we use a planned task for a S-band transmission, I will double check everything.) G-5400B and Fox Delta STS2 USB Interface

Prepared a new DIN cable to run between the Fox Delta STS-2 USB satellite interface and my Yaesu G-5400B. Tinned all wires, and checked them for correct configuration with an ohm meter. With USB cable disconnected, I attempted to do the initial calibration. This failed. Immediately, when powering on the G-5400B, the rotor transits to full UP elevation with on control input. The STS-2 will control movement from left to right normally, but has no effect on elevation up or down. When the DIN cable is disconnected, manual control of the rotor with it’s front panel switches is normal. Removing the top panel cover on the STS-2 USB, I can see that LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN LED’s light up as expected when control inputs are pushed. Judging from this, I assume the problem may lie inside the Yaesu G-5400B control box itself. Any ideas on next steps for troubleshooting or lacking that, can someone recommend a repair service for the G-5400B control box—even better one that could repair the G-5400B and verify proper operation of the STS-2 (assuming that I ship them both units.) The IORS ham station is located in theColumbus Module of the International Space Station. ARRL Hq Contest ProgramManager Paul Bourque, N1SFE, has confirmed that successful radio contacts madethrough the ARISS IORS, in crossband repeater mode, will count for an ARRL FieldDay QSO point, but also for Field Day bonus points! Another fun opportunity forpoints. Don’t forget the rule limiting stations to 1 QSO per any single channelFM satellite. On-orbit astronauts always have very busy schedules, but if a voice contact were to be made with them,it would count for QSO credit but not for satellite bonus points. Only an ARISScrossband repeater QSO qualifies for the bonus. Crossbandrepeater contacts are also valid for AMSAT Field Day for satellite operations,held concurrently with the ARRL event. Frequencies for ARISS crossbandrepeater operation are as follows: 145.990 MHz up, 67 Hz tone and 437.800 MHzdown. If you haven’t used the ISS repeater yet, be sure to practice with itbefore Field Day (June 26-27, 2021). These contacts can be tricky, but hams canpractice right now…can you do it? Status of 8 APRS satellite digipeaters

I'm trying to update the status of the EIGHT operational APRS satellites maintained on http://aprs.org/sats.html 145.825; * PSAT2 - Digi and Voice and HF/UHF PSK31 / SSTV /Voice operational * USNAP1 - Bricsat - Voltage Telemetry only - Digi inop * PSAT - digi and HF/UHF PSK31 operational * PCSAT (W3ADO-1) - Marginally operational when in good sun * ARISS - on ISS - inop * AISAT-1 - Unknown * LAPAN-Orari - Operational near equator YBOX-1 435.103/145.84 9600 baud * Falconsat - PFS3 Operational 9600 baud Challenges: With three known operational birds on 145.825 the chances of trying to make a double hop packet success is improved. VIA ariss,ariss Ten meter linear (SSB) uplink on 29.481 for PSK31, SSTV and Voice downink on 435.350 FM is underutilized. Rethinking high power on FM sats

Hi folks, When I first started working sats I used HTs so I was limited to 5 watts. In order to get into AO-85 easily which had the antenna connection issue that detuned it, I started using a 50 watt mobile radio. Since then I have often used 50 watts to ensure my signal gets in consistently even on sats that don't need it. More recently I have noticed people no longer wait for a rover to reply to someone who called them. Instead, someone will call a rover and then someone else will call the rover immediately afterwards. This is not normal. People used to wait for the rover to respond. At the same time, I know of a sat op who only had 5 watts and I heard this sat op not wait for a rover and call them immediately after someone else called the rover. I speculate that this sat op with only 5 watts started doing this because they could not get through at all in other way due to many people using over 5 watts. So I think it's possible more and more people using higher power has backfired. Since then I have been experimenting with using lower power, 10 watts, 5 watts. It can be frustrating because others are still using higher power and it's hard to get in. I am not here to tell anyone what they must do. I don't think there are any absolutes in how one must operate and there are lots of variables that make different styles necessary, But I do want to suggest anyone who usually uses high power consider times they might try not using high power. At the very least I plead to people to give rovers a chance to respond before calling the rover. Of course FM sats are inherently subject to being overloaded by multiple signals, but if many people model behavior that lets more people make contacts, it is possible to overcome some of that weakness. 73, John Brier KG4AKV

Manually Programming Your ... Yaesu FT-60R

Found a need for doing this some more. Back in 2004, Gordon West and I initiated “pre-programming” HTs for new hams while I was working for HRO-Anaheim. Out of that grew a presentation. Back then, of course, it was all performed in-person. But now … “How to Manually Program Your Yaesu FT-60R” via Zoom. Know of any hams who might want to partake? I limit the audience to 10 attendees - so that is stays intimate and all can ask everything they want to. And it will keep the session to an hour. West Coast time … I have Mondays off. But will add 6PM or 7PM start time during the week. Please send me an email with a couple “best times” for you. Or, if you have a “lead,” send me their email address. Amicalsat : 6 June S-band Transmission

The 6 June amicalsat will transmit a picture above Europe, US and Asia. Here is when a transmission will start : - 09:35 UTC - 05:58 UTC - 3:18 UTC First CW is transmitted during one second, and then the frames follow. The RTC onboard is not very accurate due to high temperature change, allow up to two minutes drift on the time given. (because this is a planned task in the satellite) The transmission will occur on the S-band coordinated frequency : 2415.300 MHz Due to temperature and hardware limitation the frequency might be a little lower.
