First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. ARISS conducts 60-80 of these special amateurradio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew memberswith ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. Talent Education College provides a backbone music instrumentalcurriculum based on the Suzuki philosophy. The school is a registered center ofTrinity College London and offers intensive English and internationalcertificates as well as other disciplines with extracurricular activities (Orchestra,Science Club, Singing Workshop). Members of the Radio Club Tucuman (LU5KHF) aresupporting the school for this ARISS contact. Hi Derrick, First problem is with SDR#. Way back in 2017, I wrote a paper on how to set up SDR#, VB-Cable, and FoxTelem with an RTL-SDR dongle. It is in the September/October 2017 issue available here. https://launch.amsat.org/The-AMSAT-Journal-2017. *1.*Note the settings for SDR# are: Radio: NFM, Filter: Blackman Harris 7, Bandwidth: 16000, Order: 500, Snap to grid: ticked, Step Size: 2.5 KHz, Audio Tab: Sample rate 48000 sample /sec (preset), Input: [MME] Microsoft Sound (Mapper) (preset), *Output: [MME] CABLE Input* *(VB Audio Virtual C, *Note: this output setting is required to pipe demodulated signal to the decoder in the next section of this document. Latency (ms): 100, Unity Gain: unticked, Filter Audio: unticked. As JoAnnesays, you will need VB-Cable and Soundmodem. Soundmodem decodes better than AGWPE and Direwolf is pretty good as well. QTMM will work also but you need VB-Cable for any of the decoders. Next problem: Computer Noise. Once you have SDR# running, check the noise floor on the SDR# spectrum display. If it is not at the bottom of the display, then you need to separate the dongle and laptop via a long USB cable. Next problem: The RTL-SDR receiver is not very sensitive and you will need a gain antenna (3 Element yagi or similar) to receive much. A 1 M dipole is too short. See: https://www.work-sat.com/antennas.html for some antenna ideas. You may also need a preamp. Finally, unless there is some ISS packet activity in your region, you may not find many packets. When I have been listening in New Zealand, I only hear about 1 packet per pass. (the beacon when there is no activity). Greetings- I have a couple of boxes of misc S band down converters, a S band signal source left over from AO-40 (sobsob), plus several primestar dishes with helix feeds. I'm tired of just looking at it. Is there a remote chance of us ever having a S band down link satellite? 73 Bob W7LRD
