de ryan kd8atf i was on the bird when the swich was made i thout some thing had happen to AO-51 but when i heard people come back i know every thing was fine but when i went to transmet i could not hear my self the i know the swich was made to 145.88. and one thing "off topic" when should aprs be back up on AO-51? 73 ryan kd8atf p.s. good job with the bird --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. Ham Radio can be great ! Dutch Authorities allowed kids day for the 2nd time this year. My son Willem, 9 yrs old, just made a sound QSO via AO51 with F0DEI, for whom it was the 2nd satellite QSO ever. Two people happy (actually three, I should including myself as well). Way to go F0DEI - your voice was loud & clear over the satellite! After this Willem programmed an APRS message into ANDE. Maybe to consider for other kids day stations as well: chatting to SPACE, and your message being answered by a real spacecraft (with NOVA on the PC, just like the Space Shuttle) is really cool ! Henk, PA3GUO ps1: good signal F0DEI - we will meet more often on the sat's ! ps2: AO51 was still operating at normal uplink, not 145.880 (yet)

OSCAR-11 REPORT 16 June 2007 During the period 15 May to 15 June 2007, no signals have been received from the satellite's 145.826 MHz. beacon. I have not received any reception reports. The satellite is currently subject to solar eclipses, which will continue until 20 August. The duration of the eclipses has now reached its maximum time of 23 minutes and will now start to decrease. The battery can no longer power the satellite during the eclipse season. When the battery voltage decreases to a preset level, the watchdog timer resets, and the beacon is turned off for approximately 21 days. When the satellite restarts, eclipses could cause the beacon to switch OFF, after a short time, probably less than one orbit. This short transmission could occur any where over the world, and could be repeated at 20.7 day intervals. Owing to the lack of accurate timings, it is impossible to predict when and where the satellite will be heard during these short transmission periods. It is just possible that someone tuning around 145.826 MHz. may hear the satellite, by chance. Observations during the last period of sustained operation (22 to 28 April) showed that the satellite could survive eclipses below 12 minutes duration. This means that sustained transmissions could start any time after 10 August, when then eclipse duration will have decreased to below 12 minutes. However, if the satellite had switched off just before 10 August, sustained operation could be delayed until the end of August. The Beacon frequencies are - VHF 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry UHF 435.025 MHz. OFF S-band 2401.5 MHz. OFF Listeners to OSCAR-11 may be interested in visiting my website. The current monthly bulletin contains further details of the satellite's status. If you need to know what OSCAR-11 should sound like, there is a short audio clip for you to hear. The website contains an archive of news & telemetry data. It also contains details about using a soundcard or hardware demodulators for data capture. There is software for capturing data, and decoding ASCII telemetry. It's been a great pleasure to hear several CW stations on the same orbit. F3ZD an I6 and F6IBE who answered my CQ call. FYI: there are several Hungarian stations HA2RD, HA5CH, HA5TI, HA8BI, HA8AR, HA6NN-just to name a few- who are waiting for late evening AO7 orbits and try to catch Canadian and US stations among Europeans. Have you got any idea how to brush up activity? CW is the most reliable mode I think, but of course SSB may be more comfortable for those who do not prefer CW to SSB... Please try to do your best in encouraging your fellows to use AO7 which seems to be the best choice for satellite activity nowadays. See you on AO7! gl de ha6nn Andras

Miles The Russian suits, whether with US or Russian people inside, use 130.165 FM. So always check the NASA releases and read them carefully. This is VHF-2 (VHF-1 is 143.625 which Gagarin used when he was a boy). Its used in EVA on orbits which start over Eastern Siberia and head West (so that there is maximum exposure to Russian groundstations); a 6 hour EVA means we can hear the closing stages at low elevations here in the UK. (Obviously you can check this with up to date keps and announced EVA times). We heard it a week or so ago on the first EVA, but on the second they were tucked up safely by the time they were over us. Personally I think the suits relay to an onboard repeater (but what do I know). You Yanks now use some other spread spectrum or similar system that we can't hear (yet ;>)). the old frequencies are dead (as is VHF-1). The shuttle uses (allegedly) 259.7 AM over the UK as she boosts into orbit but I didn't hear her last time despite sitting in the garden at 1 am local time (not very cold and not raining, just feeling silly). best wishes 73 de andy G0SFJ ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
