ISS sending sstv

SSTV is being tx'd from the ISS on 145.800, PD180 FM. It's part of the Moscow Aviation Institute's 75 celebrations and shows a group seated photo with caption. My picture is marred by noise as I really should demolish my neighbour's house to the East, hi. My next pass is at 1659 utc from the south west but I am not sure that east coast usa will hear it. 73 de andy g0sfj

UKUBE-1 Signal

Hello everyone, we have noticed, during EU passes, that UKUBE-1 starts trasmitting noise every 2-3 minutes. Looks like a spurious signal saturating and covering about half of the passband. Any idea ? 73 Fabio F5VKV

The Russian Woodpecker

Those who remember the Russian Woodpecker that could decimate the Amateur Radio Bands back in the 1980’s might be interested to know there is a new Film on NETFIX called “The Russian Woodpecker”! I thought it was some kind of spy thriller, but I got it on DVD and it turned out to be a documentary with English subtitiles. Wife got bored, but I wateched every word. I had never seen the pictures of it, but here is a guy climbing all over the abandoned antenna and making a documentary. I never knew that the Woodpecker HUGE HF beam array was right on the same property as the Chernobly Nuke plant! I didn’t see this coming. But the theory of the documentary is that the Chernoybl nuke plant disaster was traceable to “the failure” of the Woodpecker system to work as promised and so the nuke disaster was an attempt by a Moscow Bureaucrat to cause a “situation” at the nuke plant on that fateful day to cause enough of a problem to cause the big INSPECTION of the Woodpecker next door secheduled that same week, to be canceled… to hide their bureaucratic failure to work as promised. It was made by a Ukranian in brash defiance of the Russians, so there is an agenda here… Very interesting…. As conspiracy theories go… but also scary when you see the same kind of lies and deception in politicians today that was going on then too. Bob, Wb4APR

Hi David, RT Systems provides a cable that will allow CAT control with Ham Radio deluxe or other programs. As I recall, the 847 needs a null modem cable, NOT a straight thru. A Little Help Please

I am trying to install equipment for packet communication through ISS. I thought that UISS software worked with EITHER a software modem OR a TNC, but reading (at least starting to read) the 75 page manual, apparently it does not. Since it does not, please suggest another terminal program or APRS/Packet specific program. My approach for the hardware is an old MFJ-1270C TNC. I'm trying to learn its ins and outs from its 287 page outdated manual. GROINK Additionally, I have a cable ordered with modular end for my radio (IC-2730). Any advise or Elmer-ing will be highly appreciated. It has been over ten years since I had any experience with packet or APRS. I was very saddened to learn of the passing away of Robin Haighton ( VE3FRH) I had the great pleasure of meeting Robin in the year 2001 during a visit to the UK for the Amsat Colloquium, He had relatives over here as his wife had lived in the village of Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales - Not to far away from my own QTH. Along with some other colleagues we great pleasure in talking to him and one of the subjects was ARISS School Contacts When Robin returned home he very kindly (at his own expense ) sent me a CD containing a video recording of the ISS link up with "KC0PCH " ( Parkway Central high School ). I was able to show this to many other interested parties and youngsters and it really pioneered the way forward for our hobby. My most of those in the video have matured and grown up - I am sure many will still remember the experience. Many thanks Robin - a very nice and respected person. - RIP.
