ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between July 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. ARISS News Release No. 21-64 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISS Contact is Scheduled for Students at Notre Dame Jogakuin Junior and Senior High School, Kyoto, Japan December 7, 2021—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has received schedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact with astronauts. ARISS is the group that puts together special amateur radio contacts between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses on the International Space Station (ISS). This will be a direct contact via amateur radio between students in Kyoto, Japan, and Astronaut Raja Chari, amateur radio call sign KI5LIU. Students will take turns asking their questions. Local Covid-19 protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the radio relay ground station. Amateur radio operators in Kyoto, Japan, using the 8N3ND call sign, will operate the ham radio ground station for this contact. The ARISS radio contact is scheduled for December 9, 2021 at 5:33 pm JST (Kyoto, Japan), (8:33 UTC, 3:33 am EST, 2:33 am CST, 1:33 am MST and 12:33 am PST). Notre Dame Jogakuin Junior and Senior High School was established for women in 1952. The school’s programs leading up to this contact have incorporated studies of amateur radio, the ISS, living in space, space exploration, and earth sciences. Other student activities involved experiments in electronics related to space, space food, and learning about the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. To publicize the ARISS contact to other youth, students provided illustrations for an information booth during the Tachibana school festival. AMSAT-HB has been established

A new amateur radio satellite organisation *AMSAT-HB* was formed in Switzerland on November 26, 2021. With QO-100, interest in amateur radio services via satellites has also risen sharply in Switzerland. But not only the geostationary satellite fascinates the radio amateurs: The ARISS project (space station ISS), low-flying satellites, tracking of scientific deep space missions, etc., are attracting more and more attention. More and more experiments are being carried out with SDR technology in these areas. But the colleges and universities are also increasingly concerned with the topic and are looking for help from various radio amateurs in Switzerland. These and other radio amateurs were of the opinion that it was time to join forces in Switzerland. For this reason, the AMSAT-HB was founded on Friday, November 26th, 2021 in Nottwil, Lucerne. The association has set itself the goal of promoting the amateur radio service via satellites in Switzerland, but also internationally. The President of AMSAT-DL, *Peter Gülzow - DB2OS*, was involved in this project in advance. He suggested the establishment of an AMSAT-HB early on and also used his knowledge to help design it. When it was founded, Peter Gülzow took on the role of godparent and led the founding meeting live from Hanover via Web. Relative Newbie to Oscar Satellite Telemetry using SDR's, and need some help from the masters. *Problem:* Output audio is distorted, although sig strength is relatively strong. Over the past few days, I succeeded in decoding nine packets on AO-95, both on two strong overhead passes, but now have slipped backward. I’ve tried to duplicate my settings used during the successful decodes, but no luck, must be some small, obscure (but critical) setting that I am missing. Setup details follow below: *Antenna:* 2M and 70CM WIMO X-Quads on 6ft boom (no rotor, both fixed at 35deg). Boom is attached to an aluminum mast and elevated @ 30ft. *Feedlines:* Both antennas have WIMO factory-made Phasing Cables attached (verified polarity of cables) providing RHCP. Phasing Cables are connected to a CF-4160 Comet Duplexor, then fed to the shack on 70ft of LMR-400. I use the same antennas with my FT-847 for Satellite QSO’s, and it works fine; the setup also works efficiently (despite RHCP) on local repeaters. *SDR Device:* SDRPlay RSP1A ( I have two, the problem is the same on both) SDR S/W: SDRUNO V1.41 *SDRUNO MAIN WINDOW: * - Notch: MW/FM Enabled (ON) - FINAL SR: 2000000 - IFBW: 1.536MHz (LIF) - GAIN: DECIMATION 1 - USB Transfer Mode: ISOCH - IF AGC: Unchecked (OFF) - OUT: (output device) – VB CABLE-OUT - LOCK OUTPUT & AUDIO LIMITERS – Checked *SDRUNO RX CONTROL WINDOW: * - MODE: FM FM MODE: NFM - FILTER: 12K - ALL ELSE UNCHECKED (OF) *AMSAT Telemetry Analysis Tool:* V1.11g - INPUT: -Mode DUV Selected Input: VB CABLE 4800 (AF) - DUV FILTER: Raised Cosine - Cutoff Freq: 200 Filter: 448 *Virtual Cable CODECS: * Set to 16 Bit 48,000 (Dvd Quality) - Audio Enhancements are OFF *PC:* Windows 10 Latest Version - Computer has Fast Gaming level CPU and lots of RAM I can feed downloaded telemetry files into the AMSAT S/W, which decodes fine. The Antennas could be a problem if the polarization is off, but the signal strength is good. I’m convinced the problem is an S/W setting clipping the audio, but hoping to get someone to chime in with a possible solution. (ARISS-USA) created a new 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization to enhance and expand ARISS initiatives in the USA. To support the variety of new functions and roles of this organization, ARISS-USA has augmented its Senior Leadership team by selecting five new members. Martin Schulman, Associate Director: In this role, Mr. Schulman will work with the Executive Director, delegating routine tasks, enhancing perspective, and serving as a backup to the executive director when necessary. He will also serve as a member of the ARISS-USA board. Mr. Schulman has over 30 years of experience in telecommunications, programming, and computer security, and is also an active volunteer with the Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club in Sterling, Virginia. Tom Henderson, Secretary: In this role, Mr. Henderson will have the primary duty of ensuring that the internal matters of the organization run smoothly and efficiently. He will record and keep the minutes of all meetings of the Board. Mr. Henderson also serves as the custodian of the ARISS-USA Minute Book and additional books and records as the Board may direct. Mr. Henderson’s profession is IT infrastructure and systems security research. He is also current president of the Bloomington, Indiana Amateur Radio Club. Jena Dunham, Director of Volunteer Resources: Ms. Dunham will be responsible for the recruitment, basic training, and retention of volunteers needed to complete ARISS-USA’s mission. She will also maintain the volunteer database, manage subscriptions to the mailing lists, and generate policies regarding volunteer conduct. Ms. Dunham is an experienced nurse practitioner in the state of Kansas and has served as a volunteer for 4-H and the Stormont Vail hospital system. Rita DeHart, Director of Public Engagement: Ms. DeHart will be responsible for raising public awareness of the ARISS program. This includes the management of all communication methods with the public (including, but not limited to, website, press releases, articles, and all forms of social media). She will also be responsible for the management of conference participation. Ms. DeHart has 46 years in the electric power industry and is an active member of the Tampa Amateur Radio Club. Randy Berger, Director of Engineering: Mr. Berger is responsible for planning and executing the development of hardware and software systems that will enhance the primary goals of ARISS-USA, specifically STEM education and backup communications for crew members on human spaceflight vehicles. Mr. Berger’s scope of engineering involvement will support the efforts of ARISS and includes everything within the engineering purview of ARISS, such as ISS, Lunar Gateway, satellite developments, and future government and commercial space ventures. International collaboration and coordination on systems and engineering strategies will be paramount in this role along with the understanding of national and international collaboration laws and constraints (such as ITAR) that is critically important in this role. Mr. Berger is an experienced technology officer and has been involved with amateur radio since the 1970s. The new team members will join veteran leaders Frank Bauer (Executive Director), Carol Jackson (Treasurer), and Kathy Lamont (Director of Education). Gpredict & adding satellites

Hi all, Does anyone know how to add satellites to Gpredict on Linux 2004? The Satellites I'm trying to add are not any of list that gets downloaded from the database. I have the TLE's. The manual isn't helpful as well. 73's Pete Vk2pet

can we build a jammer satellite ? to jam radar and missile guidance systems so that no more military "mistakes' can shoot down a commercial airliner like MH-17 in 2014 ? things are getting kind of weird at the border again over there i and the innocent souls THANK you it was 283 passengers and 15 crew in 2014 The case will be tried in absentia as none of the suspects will appear at the Dutch court. Russia does not extradite its own citizens. It said the crash was caused by the detonation of a Russian-made 9N314M-type warhead carried on the 9M38M1 missile, launched from the eastern part of Ukraine using a Buk missile system. SATPC32 and XW series Sats

Not too long ago I had to replace my computer. All seems to be working well and I'm slowly getting back to working satellites. One thing I've noticed is that according to WinAOS in SatPC32 one or 2 XW birds should be in my sky but they aren't showing as operable in SatPC32. For example XW-2B is supposed to have a nice pass right now according to WinAos but it is not showing as available in SatPC32. I experienced this same problem with another of the XW series earlier today. ANy idea what's going on with my software setup? Rick, W2JAZ

Remote Power cord ops

It is possible to set up portable operations up to 175; from the nearest mains. I found I can replace the 20' of #14 power cord that comes on the Home Depot cord reel with 175' of #18. Rated at 10 Amps the reel can still carry plenty of power the distance if precautions are followed and it can still fit under the car seat if needed. ARISS News Release No. 21-63 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISSContact is Scheduled for Studentsat Hino Elementary School And Canna Project-Canna School Contact Team Suzaka, Japan December1, 2021—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact with astronauts. ARISS is thegroup that puts together special amateur radio contacts between students aroundthe globe and crew members with ham radio licenses on the International Space Station (ISS). This will be a direct contact via amateur radio between students in Suzaka, Japan and AstronautRaja Chari, amateur radio call sign KI5LIU. Students will taketurns asking their questions. Local Covid-19 protocols are adhered to asapplicable for each ARISS contact. The downlinkfrequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard by listeners thatare within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the radio relay ground station. Amateur radio operators, using the call sign 8NØCAN,will operate the ham radio ground station for this contact. The ARISS radio contact isscheduled for December 3, 2021, at 7:02 pm JST (Suzaka, Japan), (10:02 UTC, 5:02am EST, 4:02 am CST, 3:02 am MST and 2:02 am PST). In 2020, studentsat Hino Elementary school along with students in 20 other Japanese schools(from elementary to senior high schools) participated in the Canna Project PeaceSpace Mission. This project consisted of sending seeds of the Canna plant tothe ISS then returning these seeds back to earth to be propagated by these samestudents (who had harvested the seeds). The Canna plant produces a bright redflower and was quick to colonize the area near ground zero after the atomicbombing of Hiroshima. The seeds were sent to the ISS via the SpaceX Falcon 9rocket on March 7, 2020 and returned to earth August 3, 2020. These returnedseeds, so called “Space Canna”, produced flowering canna under the care ofthese students. Their blooms symbolize a “baton of peace” and have been sharedwith students at the United Nations International School in Vietnam, theGallaudet University in the United States, and children in 16 other countries. ThisARISS contact (previously cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic) will facilitatethe school’s goal: inspiring students’ interest and curiosity in space. Fwd: PCSAT Close Approach Notification

For what it's worth, since the Russian space littering event, I am getting almost daily Close approach alerts on PCSAT (is a high orbit, originally 800 km high). Alert miss-distances seem to be on the order of 200 to 500 meters Example Alert below at end.. Another day in space (after 20 years for PCSAT Semi-operational: http://aprs.org/pcsat.html Live downlink (W3ADO-1): http://www1.findu.com/cgi-bin/pcsat.cgi One minute serial nos (T#xxx), suggest a wake from1 to 8 minutes per orbit. PCSAT is unique in that is has no CPU or Operating system. It is just two off- the-shelf KPC9612 TNC's (chips in sockets, etc) and uses their built-in sysop features for telemetry, command and control.
