Problems with nasabare.txt

A number of operators are reporting difficulties with SatPC32 this morning after updating the nasabare.txt file. The problem is that a second set of Keps appears to have been appended to the first, so that each satellite is listed twice. A fix is to find and open the nasabare.txt file in a text editor, and to find the second time that AO-07 appears in the list. Then block and delete that second entry and all that follows. An alternative is to use a different element set, or delay updating, until the issue is resolved. -- Mark D. FUNcube mode change: silent during eclipses

Hi All, FUNcube-1 (AO-73) mode has been changed. It will be in telemetry mode in sunlight and silent during eclipse. This will allow the team to gather valuable telemetry, including energy consumption and battery health in current illumination conditions. This is not an error! You're right: running the program under my Admin profile is not the same as "Run as Admin", and I'd forgotten to try that. Most times, I discover SatPC32 has crashed because I hear my downlink signal "take off" and I start sounding like Donald Duck. A quick glance at the Tracking menu invariably shows that the Cat control has become disabled, i.e. "C+" has become "C-". My eyesight isn't what it used to be, so spotting that change gets a little tricky since the laptop is farther away from the rig. I get the "Access Denied" message when clicking the "X" too. Closing the program with Alt F -> Q and then restarting it usually does the trick, but sometimes I have to do a full laptop reboot as well as disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. One laptop has two USB ports and the other has three, and I've seen the same thing happen on all ports. (Thankfully, the port assignment doesn't change when I move the USB cable around, but I keep a watch on that too just in case.) So far, I've noticed these symptoms happen only on U/V birds, not V/U. Also, I've seen this happen regardless of when I'm using my User account or Admin account. I'm interested to see what you find out. XW-3 issues and tips for success?

So, I tried XW-3/CAS-9 on the first orbit and once later but didn't have any luck finding myself on the downlink. I want to try again but it seems the bird has issues and I'd like to understand more about those issues so I can have better luck next time I try. On Twitter I've heard others say the sat is weak, has high SWR, not a sensitive receiver, noisy at TCA, fluctuating AGC, etc. It's also possible that the RX sensitivity issue is only bad at the edges of the passband, forcing people to work in the center. Has anyone confirmed that? What's up with the AGC? What kind of uplink power/ERP is required/recommended? Problem with SatPC32 and new Bird

I thought I had everything set up for XW-3(CAS-9) perfectly until I went to update the Keps today. After updating Keps (NASAbare) I could not close the window and kept getting a German error message which of course I have no idea what it means. I just hope that Americas and Asia (Region 2 & 3) will be able have a GEOs (such as QO-100) which was a great success particularly for ITU Region 1 (and some parts of Region 2 & 3), thanks to Amsat-DL and QARS. In spite LEO FM birds are very popular in the Northern hemisphere it is quite useless here in the South, particularly for remote islands in the middle of the oceans, so my first wish is really for a HEO enabling global QSO’s. UVSQ-SAT: Transponder expected to be active on January 1, 2022 from 12:00 UTC

Dear All The LATMOS team has programmed the UVSQ-SAT satellite to go into transponder mode on January 1, 2022 at 12:00 UTC. The transponder will be active during 11 consecutive hours. Re: PSAT final spin rate?

Does anyone have an audio recording of the PSAT UHF audio downlink? We can listen for nulls to guess the final spin rate. This info is useful in assessing the radiometric spin-design.. Hi all, I took advantage of the gorgeous weather for the 24th here in Dallas, to drag all my satellite stuff out into the back yard and make contacts on several Linear passes throughout the middle of the day. I have not been on the linear birds since Field Day. Most of my good passes during the middle of the day, were the CAS 4Z and CAS 4B birds. 4B was nice and strong as it ever was, but 4A was weak and impossible for me to find myself. It was 4A that was reported to be shutting down periodically? Or 4B? Both birds never seemed to drop, but for me 4A seemed much lower in output power. Is this what others have noticed, or was it just me? Just curious. I enjoyed the outing, even with that challenge. Hope to be active on sats for fun on Winter Field Day, even if only ne contact counts toward our score.

Dear Group: I've noticed that the live tracking of the ISS is located differently on different websites and Ham Radio Deluxe. I fired up SATPC32 and it seems correct with the ESA Webpage. Live tracking on the AMSAT Webpage page is following my HRD which seems 3 or 4 minutes behind the ESA Webpage. I have updated all my keps which align with the AMSAT live tracking location. This morning while trying to download SSTV from ISS I was unable to track it properly. I had a huge signal before it even reached the horizon. Any suggestions or remedy. Jim VE7JMN

Hello, It's Rob ZL2IW here... Sorry to ask a dumb question.. if one or two could reply to me that would be enough, and greatly appreciated... I am migrating from a Windows laptop, to a Mac OS laptop for most of my day to day work... Just wondering what software is recommended for SSTV decoding, satellite tracking, and rig control. Rig will most likely be an old 9100 Have come across MacDoppler, but not sure if this decodes SSTV.. Yes, I am trying to work up a decent solution for the SSTV images from the ISS :) Thanks and all the best, Rob

SatPC32 problem- Access is denied

This problem has occurred a few times during a pass. SatPC32 stops working (I can see its not updating the frequencies) and whenever I click the tone control (T0, T1) I get the message "Access is denied" and the Countdown window dissappears. If I click OK on the message popup, the window reappears. It gets worse; In order to restore operation meaning to get doppler control so I can make a sat QSO, I need to restart SatPC32 but when I click the X, I get the error message. I must click File, Quit. By this time, the pass is over. Restarting SatPC32 does restore normal operation. This problem is intermittent. Most of the time, SatPC32 works well with my IC-9700. The PC is running Win10. Do these symptoms point to a known issue or do I just reinstall everything?

When that happened to me it was due I accidentally bump the USB cable from my laptop to the 9700 such that it made a disconnect then reconnect (you can hear the sound of USB disconnect and connecting thing). Hello, The CAMSAT XW-3 (CAS-9) amateur radio satellite will be launched at UTC 03:11:31 on 2021-12-26 , and will be deployed at 98.858°E and 28.413°S at UTC 03:35:58, location close to Western Australia. Radio amateurs will receive CW beacon and GMSK telemetry signals approximately 38 seconds after the satellite is separated from the launch vehicle, and then the linear transponder will be put into use after approximately 49 seconds. New release of AMSAT Status for Android

I first announced this over a year ago on the mailing list, but I have finally gotten back to this project. I have an Android app I've developed for publishing status updates to the AMSAT website and pulling down previous reports through their published API. I have been working on a few improvements to it since the last update and would like to get it into people's hands in time for the upcoming ARISS SSTV event happening Dec. 26th - 31st. I don't want to abuse my time on this mailing list with updates so please email me directly if you want to follow along or join in on the beta, please email me directly. I had a try this evening on the RS-44 bird but I cannot set properly the doppler In the programs so I see the signal drifting. Please any advices? Please select a source file for this group after the OK. Where do I find this file? I have been using this program for many years and never had this problem before. Any advice would be appreciated. IC 9700

Jim: I just switched from an FT-736R to an IC 9700 last March, somewhat reluctantly since I've had such a good run with the 736 since 1993. I only use the 9700 for satellite work, which is the same use I had for the 736 (I've never used a 910 so I can't compare that radio to a 9700). Thus, I'll confine my comments to the satellite arena. My joke about the 9700 is that it is a computer that has some radio characteristics. In short, once it's mated to the computer and software, it truly is an amazing piece of work on satellite. It is a dream to operate at that point handling doppler compensation without any problem whatsoever. In addition to its ability to handle a sophisticated connection to a computer without breaking a sweat, it has some nice features for basic satellite operation. One of those is the bandscope which lets me find other stations on the linear birds almost instantly. Another feature is the "automatic frequency control" (AFC) which I use on the FM birds only since, once enabled, it will cause the receive frequency to lock onto the signal and shift with it as doppler changes (I generally don't find it necessary to shift the uplink frequency when using FM). It truly makes a world of difference for me. I don't do EME (though I have thought about it and will likely try it in the future), so I don't have direct experience. However, there are multiple 9700 users that complain about frequency instability when using digital applications with it. Many of those folks have used a Leo Bodnar Reference Injection Board, which literally takes over from the 9700's internal frequency reference. It does require an external GPS reference clock. IC 9700

I'm considering replacing my IC910 used for satellite work and FT736R used mostly for 2M EME with a single IC9700. I'd appreciate hearing from folks who use the 9700 about their experiences. It will of course have to implement a set of coax switches and relays to allow the 9700 to be connected to 5 different antennas, three amps, three preamps, etc. But I'm mostly concerned about the cabling and interface to WSJT-X, a KPC9612, a sequencer for the EME side, etc. Interfacing the FTdx101D to WSJT-X required simple cabling but several settings in both the radio and WSJT-X, and another set of settings in WSJT-X for using that radio with a mast preamp and sequencer for 6 meters. All that was a bit painful to figure out. Any pitfalls with the IC9100? Jim, WD0E

SatPC32 Problem

In an effort to reconfigure my apps to work using WSJTX on FT4 something has gotten screwed up in SatPC32. I suspect it may be in a config file or something that needs to be manually changed. When I open SatPC32 now it ends up in the tray at the bottom of the screen and cannot be used to do anything including making configuration changes. Does anyone know how I can fix this? FT4 Success on RS-44

I finally resolved my problems in configuring WSJT-X and SatPC32 to work this mode. As I began to suspect, there was some issue in using Win4IcomSuite alongside the other 2 applications. I still think there now may be a way to add Win4IcomSuite back into the setup. But at least I know it's easy to get working as I just made 2 FT4 QSOs on RS-44. ARISS is the groupthat puts together special amateur radio contacts between students around theglobe and crew members with ham radio licenses on the International Space Station (ISS). This will be a telebridge contact via amateur radio and students in Nuremberg, Germany who will take turnsasking their questions of Matthias Maurer, amateurradio call sign KI5KFH. LocalCovid-19 protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800MHZ and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that alsoencompasses the telebridge station. ARISS team memberJan Poppeliers in Aartselaar, Belgium using radio call sign ON4ISS, will serve as the ARISSrelay amateur radio station. Berufliche SchuleDirektorat 1 Nürnberg (about 2,500students) is a vocational school in the south of Germany. Help with FT4 on RS44

I'll resent this since the screen shot that was attached to the earlier message is probably to large a file for this list. I've tried everything I know including watching YouTube tutorials but I cannot get FT4 to work on RS44. My setup is as follows: IC-9700 Win4IcomSuite SatPC32 2 copies of WSJTX on for RX only. I can hear and see my signal on the RX version of WSJT-X but no decodes. Screen shot of the widegraph is attached Any ideas appreciated Rick, W2JAZ
