FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 13,2021 No. 21-28 David Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org US Schools/Groups Move Into Phase 2 of ARISSSelections May 13,2021 —Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) ispleased to announce the schools/host organizations selected for the January-June2022 contact window. A total of 9 of the submitted proposals duringthe recent proposal window have been accepted to move forward in the processesof planning to host a scheduled amateur radio contact with crew on the ISS. Theprimary goal of the ARISS program is to engage young people in Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities and raise theirawareness of space communications, radio communications, space exploration, andrelated areas of study and career possibilities. ARISS anticipates thatNASA will be able to provide scheduling opportunities for these US hostorganizations. The candidates must nowcomplete an equipment plan that demonstrates their ability to execute the hamradio contact. Once their equipment plan is approved by the ARISS technicalteam, the final selected schools / organizations will be scheduled as theiravailability and flexibility match up with the scheduling opportunities. Bylaws Adopted

This morning I received an email from KE4AL notifying me that the Bylaws have been adopted because only 7 members sent in written objections. I sent a written objection to the address listed on the original notice mailing (712 H Street NE), via certified mail, and the mailing is still listed as "awaiting delivery scan". IMHO, I suspect that the transition to Postorius probably caused a larger loss of subscribers than content, both in the frustration of the transition, and in those that were probably no longer interested and actively following so there was no justification to re-subscribe. b Bill ACITO | W1PA

ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31st, 2021. Proposal information and more details such as expectations, proposal guidelines and the proposal form can be found at www.ariss.org. An ARISS Introductory Webinar session will be held on February 25th, 2021 at 8 PM ET. Net controls needed.

Looking for Dallas/Fort Worth area satellite aficionados, to act as alternating Net controls for an AMSAT related net on the Dallas Amateur Radio Club repeater. I have been hosting the net myself, since it's inception about 10 months ago, but would really like some others to rotate in. The net meets at 8PM US Central Time, every Tuesday evening, except for the first Tuesday of the month, on the DARC 146.88, W5FC repeater. (Sorry Houston AMSAT Net: Not trying to compete with you, that is just the slot they offered me.) The repeater does have an Echolink node (W5FC-R) so you would not need to be within line of sight to the repeater to be involved. Please contact me off list if you are interested. In fact, stop by if you can and participate. I am also involved and do net control several times a month on the west side of the Metro for a similar every Wednesday at 9PM Central time on the Arlington ARC 147.14 repeater. Problem with Rotor and SatPC32

When my old computer started getting unreliable it was time to buy a new one and I knew it would put me through hell getting everything transferred over and working. The first thing I tried was SatPC32 and rotor control. I use a home brew interface to a G5500 controller. The interface is a serial device that uses EasyComm protocol. For the life of me I cannot get the computer and software to talk to the device and control my rotor. Any idea what might be wrong? Rick, W2JAZ

PSAT2-1 Defaullt Reset

AMSAT Web server maintenance and updates starting 22 MAY 2021

AMSAT will be moving its web server to a new vendor over the weekend of 22 May 2021. This move will result in greater operational flexibility, ensure continued flow of security updates and may result in lower costs for server rental and backup services. End users may see service outages for www.amsat.org and the central telemetry server associated with FoxTelem but otherwise no observable changes are expected. Outages are expected to be brief, perhaps an hour or two, and are presently planned during the USA overnight hours, and we have confidence that we will be complete by the end of the weekend. FoxTelem users will find that any telemetry collected during an outage will be uploaded once the central telemetry server is established in its new home. Mailing lists and mail forwarding will not be affected, and the membership and events portal at launch.amsat.org will remain fully operational throughout the migration. About ARISS: Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative venture of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies that support the International Space Station (ISS).
