Dear all, For info. I just copied strong signal and TLM from MO-122 after rebuilding my station. Was quite easy as Rx string and using FOXTELEM to decode and forward to AMSAT. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 – 19:30 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. Girlguiding Surrey West is a charity organization for girls and young women. Girlguiding wants to inspire their members to learn skills in science, technology, engineering and math with fun guiding activities and science-based activities. The Brooklands Innovation Academy, established in 2022, creates inspirational STEM experiences for young people. The age range of the participants for this ARISS contact are 5 to 19 years old. By hosting this ARISS contact they are also demonstrating real-world application of STEM concepts (an important principle at Brooklands Museum) to space missions and are encouraging the girls to complete their space interest badge. The group is being supported by the Radio Society of Great Britain and the ARISS UK Team to establish the radio link. Girlguiding patron, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh will attend and take part in the ARISS contact to help in promoting the engagement and involvement of girls and young women in STEM. ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) Qu’Appelle was formed on February 23, 1968. RCSCC Qu’Appelle is one of 4 Sea Cadet Corps in the City of Winnipeg. The Cadet Program is a national program for youth between the ages of 12 to 18 and is supported by both the Department of National Defense and the civilian counterpart of the Sponsoring Committee. This will be a telebridge Contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions of astronaut Jeanette Epps, amateur radio call sign KF5QNU. The Centre de Formation de la Base Aérienne de Payerne (Swiss Air Force Base) is located in the town of Payerne, 40 km south-west of Berne in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The center offers young people an apprenticeship in a well-equipped environment for about 30 students ages 16 to 20. Since the beginning of the year, the students have been working on technical projects related to space. The ARISS contact will be held at the Clin d'Ailes Military Aviation Museum at Payerne Swiss Air Force Base and is one of the events organized to mark the 80th birthday of Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier, HB9CN, (during the Payerne Space Days 2024). The Discovery Dish Project is for weather satellite reception and hydrogen line radio astronomy. The Crowd Supply Project has raised over $100,000 USD. It is designed for receiving real-time weather data from GOES HRIT, GK-2A LRIT, FengYun LRIT, NOAA HRPT, Metop HRPT, Meteor M2 HRPT, and other weather satellites that operate around 1.69 GHz. Discovery Dish Rotator product, will be used for automatically aiming and tracking Discovery Dish (and other lightweight dishes) towards orbiting satellites. The controller board is based on an ESP32 microcontroller. With the ESP32, it is possible to implement the rotctl protocol over WiFi as well as serial. So this means the rotator can be controlled directly over WiFi with rotctl compatible software like SatDump and Gpredict. They are also in the process of creating a web interface for manual control and status information. Unlike similar rotators, their rotator system uses brushless DC motors instead of stepper motors, and uses feedback control via hall effect sensors on the shaft instead of feed-forward control via the steppers.
