Hi Pedro, Interesting thought!! A few remarks around this: - AFAIK magnetorque-ing is being used to change orientation but not for changing orbit. I wonder what would happen in your scenario: I kind of expect the satellite to change orientation because of the impossibility of exactly opposing the poles. - I assume that magnetorque-ing is achieved by sending a current through a coil. The force on a conductor in a magnetic field is: Force = current [A] x length [m] x magnetic field [Tesla] The magnetic field of Mother Earth is about 0.00005 Tesla at the surface so a fraction of that at satellite altitude. Echo in the Middle School classroom

Gang: I'm putting the finishing touches on a Power Point presentation on satellites for the four gr. 6 classes in my town's Middle School this week. I'm focusing it around Echo because I hope that in a few weeks when the weather warms, we can do a demo through ole AO-51. Is there anyone who would like to do a school-demo to school-demo contact? I think they'd really enjoy that. It appears that satellites enter our curriculum in the science program of gr. 6; I expect it is the same in many other N. American jurisdictions. This provides an excellent opportunity to fulfill the educational mandate of our organization and a way cool means of seriously impressing some pre-teens :-) In addition, these classes are being asked to do poster presentations on a satellite of their choosing. I'm going to point them to amsat.org. Someone's really going to enjoy telling the amazing tale of AO-7, no? The photos collected for AO-51 make this job much easier. Perhaps the teams preparing for the launch of Delfi-C3, Kiwisat and Sumbandila will keep this in mind and try to provide media documenting their journeys to space, too. 73, Bruce VE9QRP

Appreciate arguments and comments !! Perhaps some of the various satellite owners having manetorquers now in orbit could contribute with an experiment trying to pull satellite away earth while in north/south poles. A possible way to know if it works, could be watching if keps' "Decay rate" or "Mean motion" varies along time during experiment. Imagine a LEO orbit like suitsat or recent launch of many satellites from ISS could be further raised ? We could extend birds life ! Mental sickness?

Someone who's watching the last BB post and reactions just send me a note where he's making reference to the actual mood down the border. The situation is so trouble that many are loosing their natural social guides. He strongly feel that many irrational comments are a strong indicator that some are in the early stages of depression. You may be depressed if you're experiencing: * A major drop in your mood that lasts most of the day and is consistently low for two weeks or more. * A loss of interest in things you normally love to do. * Irritability at home or at work. (I added on the internet) * Grudges against people you perceive have wronged you. * A desire to avoid other people. (I added fltering their messages) * Overwhelming feelings of sadness or grief. * Unreasonable feelings of guilt. How is depression treated? Those who realize they are suffering from depression benefit from professional counseling and - possibly - medication. There is a wide range of anti- depressants on the market that have been approved in the treatment of depression. Medication does not normally "cure" depression. But it can help people get through their daily routines. As usual the first steps is to admit that we have a problem, but what will happen with those who does not want to listen prefering to discard some post on the BB?
