Help Setting up SatPC32 with HDSDR and SDR Play

I added an IF tap to my FT-847 with the idea of using an SDR Play RSP1. The idea was to get SatPC32 to talk to HDSDR and track the tuning of the 847. For the life of me I can't seem to get this all to work. I know it does but it apparently is beyond this musician's brain to sort out! 73 Rick, W2JAZ

ND9M/mm Wet Grids - 4/30-5/1

I had AO-91 all to myself at midday from BK68. We were still in that grid for CAS-4A/B around 30/0130Z, so I was able to put that one into a few logs. Then we crossed into BK58, and I was on from there on CAS-4A/B and a pair of RS-44/CW passes. Tomorrow I'll give AO-91 another go at 30/2211Z, this time from BK38, but again the pass will hit only KH6 and a lot of water. CAS-4A/B around 01/0300Z, AO-7/CW at 01/0340Z (favoring JA), RS-44/CW at 01/0401Z (looking at XE and the US/VE Left Coast a few minutes later), CAS-4A/B about 01/0430Z, and another RS-44/CW pass at 01/0553Z are on sked. After nearly two weeks off line, we've finally gotten back our internet access and have started receiving e-mail again, so I'll resume posting to Twitter. We've got another time change tonight; this will be #6 of 10 on our voyage. We'll be at GMT-10 for a couple days. Time changes are unavoidable on trips like these, but they sure get in the way of making pass skeds! 73/Jim, ND9M

Thanks Bob, Was able to get through but unable to reply to the other station I heard. I think my reply was formatted incorrectly using the "B" special QSL reply format or my timing was off. I heard KE4AZZ make QSO #16 and saw the APRS confirmation. My reply according to this page http://aprs.org/QIKcom/Q2-DTMF-messages.txt should be: C40166327802277# Message number (40= 40 Q S L, your number _, my number is %.) then modifier (qso #16) and then my callsign and key code, this is using the radiogram format. Either way, on my Icom 9700 I have to edit the DTMF memory before sending the reply, so the B or the C message format doesnt matter much differently for me. I tried doing the Direct Input of B16 then switching quickly to a DTMF memory to send 406327802277# but couldn't get a reply out of the satellite. Only an 8 degree pass here in the NJ wet rained on trees. I recorded a video and uploaded it to Youtube for this last pass. https://youtu.be/aVr3wN7WI0s Something fun and different! PSAT2 VHF Awakes

PSAT2 VHF awoke from an 8 Mo slumber on 26 Apr 2021. We have no idea why. Its telemetry looks fine. Volts between 6.2 and 7.0 volts (5 NiCds). Exterior temps between -18 and +22 C. See http://aprs.org/psat2.html PSAT2 will NOT be in APRS mode but a brand new experimental mode for DTMF uplink and VOICE downlink. So you preload your grid and callsign into a 16 digit DTMF memory in your radio and when the satellite hears this it will assign a QSO number and QSL the grid by voice and then also generate an APRS packet for collection by APRS operators. There is even a way to send back a DTMF QSL so you can make it a 2-way DTMF. contact. Successful DTMF grids and messages will appear on a special URL on the PSAT2 page (above). To QSL, you key in that stations 2 digit QSL number and then dump your pre-loaded QSL DTMF message.. Since this is the first time this transponder is on the air and because a DTMF uplink takes maybe 4 seconds, we dont want the uplink saturated by a bunch of newbeees initially until we see if it actually works. So read the docs and be sure you know what you are doing. Two grid squares - is it possible ?

I remember seeing a web site that calculated if two grid squares were in the same footprint of a satellite. I can not find it and would like to know if Hawaii is ever possible from FN30. I don't believe it is but hope springs eternal. It will also be useful for the EU passes on RS-44 from the East Coast USA. Anyone have a link for this calculation ? Thanks and 73 Frank WA2NDV FN30

Sent AX25 from on PC to another through icom9100

Hello, I tried to send an AX25 packet via an icom9100 by passing through a soundmodem which is installed in a first PC (PC1). The PCs 1 is connected to the icom9100 through usb connection. In another PC (PC2), in the same room, I used an SDR RTL2832 to receive the packet. There is variation in the waterfall of the SDR and even in the soundmodem installed in PC2. But the soundmodem in PC2 doesn’t succeed to decode the packet from PC1. There is something missing or what can be the problem? I need to check the packets that it is sent correctly before sent it to a cubesat. Thank you. Kind regards Kais

Another busy day on the ship limited me to only the two RS-44/CW passes; the first pass was from BK98, and the second one was from BK88. I'm still struggling to hear my own downlink on the satellite which costs precious time; the Elk antenna is so critical in the angle I hold it that moving it just a few degrees in any plane causes me to quickly lose my own signal; if I can't hear myself, I know the calling stations aren't likely to either. For tomorrow, I'll try to be on AO-91 at 29/2150Z from BK68. That pass only hits KH6 however; maybe someone's on from there, dunno. Later on, I will hopefully be on CAS-4A/B around 30/0130Z when we should still be in BK68. We'll cross into BK58 probably around 30/0230Z, and I'll shoot for another pair of CAS-4A/B passes around 30/0300Z plus two RS-44/CW passes at 30/0339Z and 0529Z. The ship's satellite system is starting to see the primary bird, so hopefully we'll start receiving e-mail and get back internet access soon. 73/Jim, ND9M

ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The first pass I was able to get on today was XW-2F at 27/0108Z which I started in CK67 and finished in CK57. I got called out to work for a couple hours during the evening which got in the way of several passes, but I was able to get on four passes from CK57 afterward. For tomorrow (4/27), I'm hoping to get on the AO-91 pass at about 27/1931Z; we should be in CK37 at that time. The next pass I'm looking to work is AO-7 at about 28/0056Z; we may still be in CK37 but will probably have crossed into CK27 by then, and the next few passes will be from that grid. There's an XW-2A pass that starts here at about 28/0528Z, and we'll enter CK17 around that time. Hopefully we'll have crossed the grid line by pass time. 73/Jim, ND9M

Lucky timing allowed me to put out two grids - DK05 and DK06 - during today's midday AO-91 pass. Later on, I was on from CK96 on XW-2C/D/F and RS-44/CW, and then from CK86 on XW-2A and a later RS-44/CW pass. Both RS-44 passes were tough for me to hear my own downlink, and I'm surprised that so many QSOs were made. If I'd been using SSB, the QSOs on RS-44 wouldn't have been possible, but CW got the job done. We have another time change tonight - we'll be GMT -8 as of Monday - so I doubt I'll be on AO-91's midday pass. If I am, I'll probably be in CK66 at that time. I should be on XW-2F at 27/0108Z, hopefully still in CK67 before crossing out of that grid a few minutes after the pass. I'll be looking to be on from CK57 on two passes each of CAS-4A/B and RS-44/CW plus one XW-2A pass between 27/0155Z and 0450Z. 73/Jim, ND9M

ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31st, 2021. Proposal information and more details such as expectations, proposal guidelines and the proposal form can be found at www.ariss.org. An ARISS Introductory Webinar session will be held on February 25th, 2021 at 8 PM ET. The Eventbrite link to sign up is: https://ariss-proposal-webinar-spring-2021.eventbrite.com The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. Because of the nature of human spaceflight and the complexity of scheduling activities aboard the ISS, organizations must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changes in dates and times of the radio contact. Amateur Radio organizations around the world with the support of NASA and space agencies in Russia, Canada, Japan and Europe present educational organizations with this opportunity. The ham radio organizations’ volunteer efforts provide the equipment and operational support to enable communication between crew on the ISS and students around the world using Amateur Radio.
